Design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments
Using educational technology and personalized learning environments and assessments, teachers inspire students to take responsibility over their learning by setting their own goals and allowing them to pursue their individual curiosities. Every student has unique interests and unlimited potential.
Before a student can navigate the world of technology, they should learn the ins and outs of being a responsible digital citizen. In my future classroom, I would like to create my own classroom website where students are able to log in, conduct research, create content, complete assignments, and share their work. Before we do that they will have to learn how to be safe on the Internet, protect their identity, and follow the rules and regulations of copyrights. I created a PowToon (Artifact #1) that explains to students the rules to being a responsible digital citizen. PowToon was a new and exciting tool for me to use. I had never thought I'd be able to make an animation, but after several hours of playing around with PowToon, I finally got the hang of it. It was tricky and daunting at first, but I was ready for a challenge.
Another way I have used technology to inspire students to explore their individual curiosities is through creating an instructional video with my peers (Artifact #2). We went to Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve in Escondido to teach 2nd graders about plant life. We had a great time making this video and hope that our students will be inspired to look at the plant life that is around them every day. They might even ask their parents to take them to Elfin Forest for a hike on the weekend. That would be great! We created a Google Form (Artifact #3) to check the students' learning after watching the video. Other tools to use for student engagement and to check student learning include Kahoot, Socrative, and PearDeck.
